Carl S. Pugh
Carl Pugh began his career in 1980 as founding publisher of PDN, the leading magazine for professional photographers. He launched his first trade show for the same market in 1983. Though Pugh sold his business in 1985 to a division of VNU Publishing company, both the magazine and the show remain market leaders to this day.
Since then Carl has launched and run countless events and headed up three major trade show companies: CMC, Cowles Events (now Primedia) and Mecklermedia. Most recently Carl ran the technology events division for Penton Media, which generated annual revenues as high as $80 million during the recent Internet boom.
Carl is on the board of directors of the Society of Independent Show Organizers, the leading association for trade show producers. He has also served as chairman of their annual CEO conference for the past five years. Carl frequently speaks on the art and science of successful show management.

Prior to joining Penton, Mr. Caprio was event director for Red Herring Conferences, producing the company's Venture Market conferences and Annual Summit.
From 1996 - 1999, he was publisher of information products at Primedia where he moved the company into the Internet age by bringing print directories online.
From 1989 through 1996, Mr. Caprio rose from sales executive to group sales director at Reed Exhibitions. During this time, he won numerous awards for launching the New York Restaurant and Food Service Show, which was Reed's most successful event debut in ten years, and for consistently breaking long-standing sales records.
